Personal data we process
House Check processes your personal data because you use our services and/or because you provide that data to us yourself. Below you find an overview of the personal data we process:
- First name and surname
- E-mail address
- IP address
- Internet browser and device type
Special and/or sensitive personal data we process
Our website and/or service does not intend to collect data about website visitors younger than 16, unless they have permission from a parent or guardian. We cannot, however, check whether a visitor is older than 16. We therefore advise parents to be involved in their children’s online activities, so as to prevent data about children being collected without parental consent. If you are convinced that we have collected personal data about a minor without that consent, please contact the data protection officer and we will delete this information.
For what purpose and on what legal basis we process personal data
House Check processes your personal data in order to give you the possibility of creating an account on the portal.
Automated decision-making
House Check does not take decisions on the basis of automated processing about matters that can have (significant) consequences for individuals. This concerns decisions taken by computer programs or systems, without a person (for example an employee of House Check) being involved.
How long we keep personal data
House Check does not keep your personal data longer than is strictly necessary to achieve the purposes for which your data is collected. The data is kept until one year after your account is closed, unless the authorities require otherwise.
Sharing personal data with third parties
House Check does not sell your data to third parties and only provides it where this is necessary to perform our agreement with you or to comply with a legal obligation. With companies that process your data on our instructions we conclude a processing agreement, in order to ensure the same level of security and confidentiality of your data. House Check remains responsible for these processing activities.
Cookies, or similar techniques, that we use
House Check only uses technical and functional cookies. A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your computer, tablet or smartphone the first time you visit this website. The cookies we use are necessary for the technical operation of the website and for your ease of use. They make sure the website works properly and remember, for example, your preferences. They also let us optimise our website. You can opt out of cookies by setting your internet browser so that it no longer stores cookies. You can also delete any information stored earlier through your browser settings.
Viewing, amending or deleting data
You have the right to view, correct or delete your personal data. You can do this yourself through the personal settings of your account. You also have the right to withdraw any consent you gave for the processing of your data or to object to the processing of your personal data by our company, and you have the right to data portability. That means you can submit a request to us to send the personal data we hold about you, in a computer file, to you or to another organisation named by you. If you wish to exercise your right to object and/or your right to data portability, or if you have other questions or comments about the processing of your data, please send a specified request to the data protection officer. To be sure that the request for access was made by you, we ask you to enclose a copy of your identity document with the request. In this copy, black out your passport photo, the MRZ (machine readable zone, the strip of numbers at the bottom of the passport), the passport number and the national register number. This is to protect your privacy. House Check will respond to your request as quickly as possible, and in any event within four weeks. House Check also points out that you have the possibility of lodging a complaint with the national supervisory authority, the Data Protection Authority. You can do so through the following link: https://www.dataprotectionauthority.be
How we protect personal data
House Check takes the protection of your data seriously and takes appropriate measures to prevent misuse, loss, unauthorised access, unwanted disclosure and unauthorised alteration. If you have the impression that your data is not properly secured, or if there are indications of misuse, please contact our customer service or the data protection officer. House Check has taken the following measures to secure your personal data:
- TLS (formerly SSL). We send your data over a secure internet connection. You can see this from the “https” in the address bar and from the padlock in the address bar.
- DNSSEC is an extra layer of security (on top of DNS) for translating a domain name (housecheck.be) into the IP address linked to it (the server name); it is given a digital signature. You can have that signature checked automatically. In this way we prevent you being redirected to a false IP address.
